The gun in my hand dropped to the floor and I bawled and I bawled. The world as I knew it has ended. I used to be a fighter. But now I lay down my weapon to spend my last moments with the man I love. We met five years ago at a mutual friend’s birthday party. He was a solider working in the army and I was just a cashier girl. He came up to me at the drinks table - told me he was working on something ‘big’. But he couldn’t disclose anymore information because it was confidential. I knew then that I felt something for him because I wanted him to trust me with whatever it was he couldn’t say. I didn’t know at the time that what he and his job were fighting against would years later destroy our world. A week after that evening he phoned me. Something was developing between us: an overpowering sensation of euphoria. It felt supernatural or impossible, that such a feeling could exist just by looking at or touching each other.
